Whether you’re interested in getting microblading done or want to learn more about this trending eyebrow treatment, you came to the right place! Our complete microblading guide will tell you everything you need to know about microblading eyebrows and what you can expect to experience when you are ready to transform those brows!
Microblading is a process executed by a certified and experienced cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist using a hand held instrument with a small blade at the end. The cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will manually and carefully make little incisions in the skin that mimic the existing natural hair creating the perfect blend for the most natural looking eyebrows.
This treatment is only semi-permanent due to how the pigments are inserted into the skin. The skin is made of 3 layers; the dermis, epidermis and the subcutaneous. The epidermis is the thin, tough, outer layer of skin that we see and touch. The dermis is the layer below and it contains nerve endings, sweat glands and hair follicles. The final layer is the subcutaneous fat layer which serves as a protective padding. When a client receives microblading, the cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will precisely penetrate only the first layer and by doing this the pigments only sit on the surface of the skin. Resting close to the surface of the skin certain factors like UV rays, topical skin treatments such as chemical peels and natural oil formation in the skin will dissolve the pigments. Only an experienced cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will be able to engage in this technique properly. Prior to the method of microblading being founded, the cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist would insert the pigments through the second layer of the skin. This makes the treatment permanent, since the pigments are considerably deep and it leaves very little room to be dissolved. That is the difference between microblading vs traditional eyebrow tattoos. Unlike your traditional eyebrow tattoo that last forever, microblading eyebrows lasts anywhere from 12-18 months depending on each client.
All microblading eyebrows are custom to each individual’s facial features and their desires. Below are microblading before and after photos done by our artist at Reign in Riches in Toronto.
Includes consultation and a complimentary touch up appointment
This semi-permanent treatment can help every client achieve the perfect eyebrows they have always wanted. Eyebrows come in all different shapes and sizes, some may be too thin, too low, too sparse, too arched and the list goes on. But most often that complaint is that no two eyebrows are ever even or symmetrical. With the help of microblading, we can resolve this problem by enhancing the existing eyebrows following the natural contours of each client’s face. Now, forget about spending time each morning in front of the mirror tediously pencilling or powdering your eyebrows. They say eyebrows are sisters and not twins so we can say goodbye to “bad brow” days when they refuse to be related! Flawless eyebrows can be completed by using the most realistic semi-permanent treatment. Semi-permanent treatments are more desirable these days because it allows the client make subtle changes as they age and as their preferences change. Eyebrows are a feature of the face that is often over looked. They frame the eyes and make a significant impact depending on how they're shaped. We all regret the eyebrows we had when we were teenagers and they are not the same ones we want today! With microblading you can have your flawless eyebrows today but also indulge in new trending eyebrow treatments in the future.
Before any treatment can be completed, each client will need to come in for a consultation offered for as complimentary at Reign in Riches. The clients safety and comfort are a number one priority. During the microblading consultation many factors will be addressed along with any contradictions that may not be very favourable and compromise the results.
Clients who can absolutely not have microblading eyebrows:
After the health consultation is completed and the client is an eligible candidate, the cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will evaluate what the client’s concerns are about their eyebrows and gather more information to understand and help the client achieve the perfect eyebrow.
The cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will then use a specialized measuring caliber to map out the areas of the face following the golden ratio. The golden ratio is used in art, beauty, math, architecture and so much more to create the most aesthetically pleasing results. When this is applied to the eyebrows, there is no cookie cutter shape. No two clients will have the same eyebrow shape or size, each client will have the golden ratio applied to the natural bone structure of their face to creating the most complimenting and balanced eyebrows. The technician will apply all the information collected from the consultation to draw out the eyebrows and give the client the most realistic idea of how their microblading eyebrows would look. At this point the client and technician will communicate and review to make any adjustments with the cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist until they are completely happy with the shape. The colour will be matched depending the colour of the client’s natural hair, this allows the strokes to blend in for the most natural and realistic look.
Before your microblading appointment, you should be avoid:
When the client arrives, the client will sign all necessary forms and a pre numb topical anaesthetic will be applied for 30 mins. After the 30 minutes has elapsed the cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will then draw on the shape and ensure the client is happy and confident prior to proceeding. The cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will then start the microblading and the process takes around 1.5 - 2 hours. The cosmetic eyebrow tattoo artist will then review the microblading aftercare instructions and the healing schedule with the client.
Avoid the following during the microblading healing time to achieve the best results:
The expected healing time for microblading is 7-14 days, however all clients will heal at different rates. Initially the treated area will seem very dark and it can be a bit scary but trust the process! The area will begin to be flaky and they will fall off in little pieces. Once the flakes have completely fallen off, the colour will seem light and faint as the skin is still healing while the flakes have fallen off. The true colour reveals around 4 weeks.
About 4 weeks after your first appointment your microblading eyebrows should have completely healed but you may notice that some areas of the skin did not retain pigment. This is absolutely normal, please keep in mind that the skin does not heal evenly and that is why the second microblading touch up appointment is absolutely required we call this the “perfecting appointment” which happens 4 - 6 weeks after the initial appointment.

Just like your first appointment, at first your microblading eyebrows will seem dark but it is supposed to be this way because remember microblading is still an eyebrow tattoo at the end of the day and like all eyebrow tattoos they will lighten. Your complete microblading eyebrows will reveal its true color in about 4 weeks after the second touch up appointment. You can expect the process from start to finish be about 1.5 – 2 months. Be calm and patient because it’s definitely worth the wait!!!

Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure and it has the longevity of 12-18 months are for most clients although it can vary based on each client. Wearing sunscreen whenever outdoors and exposed to UV rays will help with the premature fading of the pigments. Clients with oily skin will notice a touch up is required sooner to prevent those hair strokes from looking blurry than clients with normal to dry skin. Clients with lighter pigments tend to fade a little faster than darker pigments. Laser treatments and chemical peels will also cause the pigments to fade so be sure to tell the technician about the area so it can be avoided. A touch up is up to the client but it is recommended every 12-18 months to boost colour and keep your microblading eyebrows looking fresh.
